Album Review: Daggerplay – “Subterranean Reality”

From the opening instrumental track, ,”Red Sky”, its apparent that Finnish band Daggerplay means business with new album “Subterranean Reality”. What an awesome way to begin an album filled with Rock, Punk Rock, Rockabilly, and Power Infused Pop laden masterpieces! They’ve got the musicality of bands like Green Day and the songs to back up their prominence of being a band with more than a whole lot to offer.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Pekko Mantzin, guitarist and vocalist Tommi Luostarinen, bassist and backing vocalist Ville Ahonen, and drummer Sirpa Immonen blow the roof off with new album release, “Subterranean Reality”!

“Cruel Wind Blowing” is nothing short of an anthem and aside from it being one of my favorite songs off the album, it completely shows everything that this amazing band is truly capable of. Awesome melodies, lyrics, and a chorus hook that will have you standing on your feet, first pumping in the air, and singing along at the top of your lungs.

And speaking of anthems, there are a lot of them on “Subterranean Reality”. “Don’t Give Up”, “Days Like These”, “Four Walls”, “Same Old, Same Old”. But let’s be honest here. This album, and this band are dialed into the Punk Rock angst and each and every one of the 14 songs that make up this gem of an album just proves that Daggerplay have found their niche. I am honestly blown away by the sheer musicianship of this band, and lyrically their words are poetic pieces of brilliance.

“Afterlife” and “Ghosts” are just awesome! “Ghosts” is a song that I hope everyone has a chance to hear! It’s just phenomenal!!!!!

I also want to mention all of the wonderful guest musicians that flesh out this amazing album, adding everything from guest vocals, violin, banjo, piano, glockenspiel, and the list just goes on and on. Their contributions really make “Subterranean Reality” a truly epic work of art. One listen to album closer, “Sinister Blues”, and you’ll hear what I mean. A lot of hard work went into making Daggerplay’s new album and the talent here is absolutely stellar!

This is an album for the ages and I cannot recommend it enough! Congratulations, Daggerplay! You’ve got a massive hit on your hands!!!!!
