KLIF’s Notes

Welcome to KLIF’s Notes

Hey, welcome to my new fact-based blog, I guess. I’m not exactly in love with calling that though just because I don’t. (wink!)

I decided to create something that would be fact-based & important to both Indie Artists and Indie Labels. The music industry is quite the mess these days and that’s the most polite way I can word it to not “get in trouble”.

In 2013, I was working for a company called Radio Computing Services(RCS) which is a subdivision of iHeartMedia when I came up with the idea of an internet only radio station.

Not a new concept at the time, but the idea of a 24/7 indie artist only radio station was in my opinion. We never thought it would reach the huge audiences we have today though.

Next month, the station turns 10 years old & almost reached 600,000 listeners worldwide. And the shocker comment here……you can count the number of people who “work” for BWNR on one hand.

I have to admit, my only knowledge about radio stations came from all the people I met when I was an RCS Technical Support Engineer but I learned over the past decade how to program the station logs properly, how to create promos and liners as well as, you can’t chose music to play based on not wanting to disappoint submitters. I had never been a DJ so to listen to the early days and the way I did things makes me laugh sometimes.

So that’s how The BandWagon Radio Network came to be on a cold winter day in Ogallala, Nebraska; a city on Interstate 80 in western Nebraska. For those of you who have seen Lonesome Dove the movie, Ogallala became more famous than that with what was to come in 1989.

That’s it for now. Hope you keep coming back because I can’t wait to pass on information for Indie Artists and Indie Labels that will change your view of how to get the most out of the music you create.
